Shiun: A Stellar Dining Experience

Cheng Hui Hsin's Award-Winning Restaurant Design in Taichung

Cheng Hui Hsin, the creative director, along with designers Lin Wan Ju and Liu Yi Tseng, drew inspiration from the lively night owls who frequent Shiun. The restaurant operates from day till midnight, providing a warm, intimate setting for patrons to enjoy fresh seafood and lively conversations. The design team aimed to create an atmosphere reminiscent of ancient poets, elegantly and unrestrainedly enjoying their time.

The uniqueness of Shiun lies in its innovative use of lighting and interior design. The team used linear lights to simulate the effect of starlight, coupled with a dark interior tone to highlight the changing light shades. This gives customers the illusion of dining under a starry sky. The design also incorporates elements of Chinese style in the constellation-themed decor.

The restaurant's design was realized using a variety of textures, including black mirror, stainless steel components, and rustic culture stone. The main light in the middle area of Shiun uses horizontal light tubes that cross each other, creating a deeper simulation of the astrological image. This is further enhanced by the reflection from the black mirror, making the interior appear more spacious and exquisite.

Despite the fierce competition among similar Shabu Shabu restaurants in the vicinity, Shiun stands out due to its unique characteristics and customer-centric design. The design team conducted extensive market research to understand customer habits and needs, which greatly influenced the final design.

Shiun's design journey began in July 2017 and was completed in January 2018. The project was a testament to the team's creativity and technical prowess, overcoming various challenges to create a unique dining experience. The restaurant's design not only lights up the night for its patrons but also enhances the overall dining experience, making each meal a delightful event.
